Madoka

New York based Mark Venneri has been developing a distinct vision of his musical future since he was first introduced to the underground at a warehouse party in Philadelphia in early 1991. It was just a matter of time before he strengthened his love for the powerful music he heard every weekend and decided to try his hand as a DJ, and eventually, as a producer. Whether he was commanding a club’s booth, molding intense soundscapes during a live PA or broadcasting his college-radio show entitled Grooveshop, Mark has always been a true innovator. While he remained relatively quiet in these roles for almost a decade in the United States, he felt it was finally time to take his unique sound to the international masses in 2000. With his newly formed artist moniker Madoka, he began his journey and hoped to achieve such a goal.

Mark spent nearly a year refining the quality of his music and crafting the new direction of his original sound. He materialized his ideas by the spring of 2001, and the creative restructuring resulted in his initial body of work entitled MyCity EP. With a solid production effort now under his belt, he introduced his own uniquely deep, moody and throbbing style--molding house and trance into a new, twisted formula. As a result of shopping around MyCity to top labels and DJs, he started to receive valuable feedback, including a call from Plastic Fantastic Records in the UK. They seized the opportunity and signed Madoka's first track entitled "Dive". The tune would eventually be paired with a Mo Shic and Zidan remix, and Mark used the accomplishment as creative fuel.

Some major record labels quickly picked up Mark’s next few songs. "Cabaret" was licensed to Vapourized Volume 3 and was signed to Dutch label Deep Records along with the single "If We Begin". "Slightly Forward" followed, and was handed over to SAW Recordings under the exclusive Akodama name. The single was released to critical acclaim in spring 2002, and the Trendroid remix was licensed to Kinetic for their sixth installment of the Transport series.

During this time, Mark was also thrilled to accept what he considered to be the opportunity of a lifetime for his own Private Reality imprint. In early 2002, he announced an agreement with Andy Jarrod, Director of 3 Beat Label Management, encompassing the manufacturing, distribution and promotional details of future releases and becoming part of the group’s impressive stable of leading labels. Although Mark officially announced the creation of Private Reality back in 1998, and already managed to independently distribute 500 units of his debut EP entitled "Confessions of a DJ", he was excited to write a new chapter in his label’s ongoing saga. In the last few years as Director, Mark successfully managed to expand the label’s roster, attracting some of the freshest international talent such as Roel, Clubbervision, Satoshi Fumi and Bart van Wissen.

Along with the success of his first two Private Reality records "Coppola," with its flip-side "Temperamental" licensed to Slinky Planet: Tokyo, and his critically-acclaimed "Mass," Mark firmly set the foundation for his profile. He followed-up with his own “Distant Memories” and had Matthew Dekay rework the track. Young Dutch producer Bart van Wissen followed suit, becoming the label’s first outside addition to the artist roster, unleashing his monster “Unforeseen” which was complemented perfectly by its peak-time Madoka remix.

In the past, Madoka’s “Plataforma” (Release Elements) was licensed to Kazell’s Driven, while both "Altered" (ShineMusic) and "Afterburner" (Private Reality) scored spots on Max Graham’s Shine compilation. His previously unreleased remixes "First Class, Free Drinks Rub" breaks mix of Matthew Dekay's "If I Could Fly" (Deep) and the dub version of Powerplant's "Turn It Into Gold" (Deep) were also both featured on Steve Gerrard's Thinking Out Loud (Nascent) compilation. This year, "Altered" also appeared on DJ19's Addictive Asia: Gate2 (S2S Pte Ltd.) and Roel’s remix of Madoka’s “Drift” was included on Japanese DJ So’s Soul Glider compilation (Aqua). Recently, Madoka's now-classic "Metamotional" found its way onto one of 2006's most critically-acclaimed compilations Ben Watts' Buzzin' Fly Volume 3.

Building on the initial excitement of reworking Automagic’s “I’ll Be Here” (Definity) and “If I Could Fly” in earlier years, Madoka continues to build an impressive list of production credibility. His 2005 interpretations of Clubbervision's "Paz" (Private Reality) and "Saturation Generation" mixes of Brahma's "Submerged" (Babylon) equally strengthened his reputation for turning out solid remix packages. He also introduced his break-beat talent with mixes of Blue Room Project’s “5B” (Hunya Munya) and 2004’s "Turn It Into Gold" (Deep).

The Madoka name has hit DJ charts once again in 2006, with new originals such as “Thursday Night Hero” (Noctambula) and surely again with future hits “Sofia," “Residual” and "Our Heritage" all forthcoming on his Metamotional Music. He also returns to the remix circuit this year with his upcoming remix of DPen's "Don't Close your Eyes" (Ingenius).

2005 also marked Madoka’s return to the DJ and performance arena. He has already played some of the best international rooms in cities such as Tokyo, Turkey, Amsterdam and Bulgaria, while managing to hit some US spots such as Jacksonville Beach and his hometown New York City.  With each new performance, Madoka consistently crafts his saturated sound for dedicated fans with his fresh and forward ideas.

Since October 2004, Madoka has turned his attention from his vinyl venture to the digital domain, launching his download-exclusive label called Metamotional Music, affectionately named in honor of his critically acclaimed masterpiece on Deep Focus.  Created and branded apart from Private Reality, the label is currently exclusively distributed via Beatport. The digital imprint has already featured his dark, dirty and twisted monsters "MTTM (Madoka's Tribute to Mazzo Mix)" and "Arena" as well as his recently massive "Drift,” Satoshi Fumi’s “Moment Of Truth,” and Leroy Carroll’s “Lost Again” packages.
